Missionary trips: The Trio team is now returning to their home village in the Southern part of Suriname, They have completed their visit to the  Brazilian Zoe tribe. A Zoe man is coming with them to teach the Zoe language to the team. We have not learned yet why this decision was made, or what further plans there are.

Travel: I am presently in Paramaribo and hope to fly back to the US th of Feb. arriving midnight. While in Paramaribo Wajana and Trio villages. I hope to duplicate the work on the SS lessons I have done and make it available to SS teachers in the other on Friday the 12

My link to you: When living in a some what isolated area communication with friends and family is of up most importance. I thank Rinia who enabled me to communicate with you by so faithfully processing my emails this year and sending them on a memory stick when ever a MAF plane came. This was much added work to her already overloaded schedule. Thank you so much Rinia. May the Lord richly bless you for your willingness to be used by Him.

Missionary trips: The Trio team to the Zoe, pronounced as show – well) tribe has arrived at their destination in Brazil. Reports are tat they are hungry to know about the Savior.

Besides that they also ask for clothes and items. Remember this is the tribe that has no clothing at al but they have seen many others with clothing.

Praise and Prayer: see prayer page

My Work; Thank you for your prayers The Lord enabled me to finish the lessons in a  remarkable way. The language gave me less problems this time. I should have asked for this before.

In Pïlëoïmë 2010 was heralded in with a midnight worship in song service. It was an unannounced service though in a small village like this messages travel fast. I do not know how your year started but I hope you will have a year dedicated to the Lord and filled with blessings.

Urgent Prayer Request:  Two children, 10 and 8 year old, from one of our Trio villages are lost in the bush as of yesterday January 2. Please pray that they may be discovered soon and that the Lord will protect them.

Missionary trips: In my last update I wrote that the expedition party to the Zoe tribe would continue their trip on the 17th of December. Well that has changed and plans are now to go on the 4th of January. You have probably gathered by now that time is not important to the Indians. Generally in the third word the saying “time is money” is not known. Pray for safe travel and a good reception. Pray the Lord will work in the hearts of the Zoe Indians, to make them receptive and eager to hear the word. Ask that the language barrier may not hinder the gospel.

As far as I know the Wajana team still plans to leave soon to the Medio Indians in French Guyana. Continue to pray for them as well.

Children’s work: The Christmas pageant went well. I have enclosed some pictures of the wise man being dressed and Mary. The wise man decided against the Brazillian soccer team shirts, dressing up during the rehearsal. The other 2 pictures are from the game day that we held on the 26th.

On Feb 2 I hope to fly into town on February 2 ant to the US on the 10th I brelieve it might be the 12th. I have a little less than a month left in the bush and still 15 Sunday school lessons to prepare. Please pray for insight and language.

Children’s work:

Dressing for the play

Dressing for the play

We are preparing for a Christmas pageant, a first in this village, it looks like it is going to be extra special. During our meeting the teachers were discussing the presents the wise men will bring. It sounds like baby Jesus might get some mighty nice gifts, bananas, 3 small mangoes and some sweet potatoes; they plan to put them in boxes and wrap them. When I asked do we have paper? Yes, they said for one of the girls saw a news paper at someone’s house.

When I inquired about a manger they decided a tin box with dead grass could be used. I had several times talked about an animal feeding container, but coming to think of it they have never seen animals eat out of one of those things. The jungle animals sure don’t use them.

The wise men might be coming from the South in Brazilian soccer team shirts. Fine with me I am happy about the ownership they are taking.

Lord willing on Christmas day we will feed the children rice and beans than we hope to have a game day on the 26th.

Missionary trips:

In my last update I wrote “Presently a Trio outreach team is ministering to the Zoe tribe in Brazil” well they have not arrived at the tribe yet but are presently in Misau. The fuel they had to wait for has come so they now plan to continue their trip on the 17th of December. Some of the Misau Trios plan to accompany them to help carry the load to a half way point where they plan to meet some of the Zoe tribe they than will escort them back to their own villages. Pray for safe travel and a good reception. Pray the Lord will work in the hearts of the Zoe Indians, to make them receptive and eager to hear the word. Ask that the language barrier may not hinder the gospel.

The team of Wajana Indians also has not yet left; they had to wait for finances to cover the traveling cost. The money has arrived and I have a feeling that they too plan to celebrate the holydays with the family before departure. Continue to pray for them as well.

Bible Conference:  Attending the bible conference at the village of Tepu with some thousand other people was a remarkable and spiritually uplifting experience. What a difference with the very first annual conference in 1974. About 6 tribes were represented and messages were officially translated into three languages.

During these 3+ days singing and worship started around 5 AM, while the first of the 4 AM meetings started at 8:00 breaking at noon to start the first of the two PM meetings again at 4:00. That was not enough for the youth so returned at 8PM and kept going till around 11PM. Each village had their chorus sing and dance. It seems to me that they finally found a healthy replacement of earlier dancing and demon worship.

During the last night a symbolic baton was handed to the village who will host the next bible conference. These meetings are remarkable and encouraging to all believers however the high cost of traveling prohibits an annual event. It has been decided to hold them biannually. Food is always a problem during these conferences there is never enough and still people keep returning.

Ilse’s Pension: Not much progress yet. Keep her before the throne of God.

Zoe Tribe: A team of Trio Indians is planning to leave on October 5, 2009, for the Zoe tribe (sounds like Show - well) down in north Brazil.  While this tribe is un-reached as far as the gospel is concerned, they are not unknown or un-contacted.   Government agencies have contacted them and have representatives living among them.  The Zoe are virtual prisoners in their own land.  The government tells them what they can have or cannot have.  No clothes, no medicine, no schools, no outsiders without government approval (tourists flown in to see them dance and be photographed, at a price)  The government has given them selected items such as fish hooks and fish line and garden tools.  Strangely they have given them aluminum boats that they paddle.  They also have shortwave radios that the officials use to communicate to headquarters.

My Papers: Praise Him today I received my temporary permit. The official one might not be ready till after I leave. At least I am legal. I hope to be in Paramaribo till the 9th when I fly back to the village. This will still give me 13 weeks in the bush during which I hope to start 2 new classes.
